Defense Minister Israel Katz has decided to appoint IDF Deputy Chief of General Staff, Major General Amir Baram, as Director General of the Israel Ministry of Defense (IMOD)

Major General Amir Baram will assume his position upon completion of the appointment process and government approval, and following the completion of his IDF service and proper handover procedures with the incoming IDF Deputy Chief of General Staff and the IMOD Acting Director General.

Major General Amir Baram (55) served in the IDF for 37 years in various senior combat and command positions, including Commander of the Paratroopers Brigade, Commander of the 98th Division, Commander of the 91st Division, and Commander of the Northern Command. In October 2022, he was appointed Deputy Chief of General Staff, responsible for the IDF force build-up. 

Coming from within the defense establishment, Major General Baram has extensive knowledge of procurement processes, military equipment, and defense industries. He maintains strong working relationships with his U.S. counterparts and can significantly contribute to rapid procurement needs. His proven track record includes experience leading large-scale defense operations and successfully collaborating with civilian authorities.
