Israel Launches National Committee to Address Crisis in Care for Wounded Security Personnel

The Israel Ministry of Defense (IMOD) and Ministry of Finance Joint Public Committee for Expanding the National Response for Treatment and Rehabilitation of Wounded IDF and Security Forces Personnel has commenced its operations.

The committee will address bureaucracy reduction, physical and mental rehabilitation and treatment, adjusting compensation and benefits, supporting family members, strengthening community response, and improving service delivery methods. 

IMOD Director General, Maj. Gen. Amir Baram, opened the committee's first meeting, emphasizing the importance of treatment and support for IDF wounded veterans as a component of social resilience, stating: "The rehabilitation of security system casualties is a top priority for the Ministry. The care and welfare of IDF disabled veterans constitutes a fundamental component of Israel's national security and our social resilience. The IMOD is committed to the committee's success and will provide all necessary resources. This is sacred work of the utmost importance."

Defense Minister Israel Katz and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich appointed the joint committee to examine the responses and services required for IDF wounded veterans and ensure proper, comprehensive, and optimal treatment for them.

The committee is chaired by Prof. Shlomo Mor-Yosef, with Prof. Itzhak Shapira serving as Deputy Chairman, alongside Limor Luria, IMOD Deputy Director General and Head of the Rehabilitation Department, Adv. Edan Kleiman, Chairman of the Zahal Disabled Veterans Organization (ZDVO), and representatives from the IDF, experts in health and psychiatry, economics, and public policy.
